We offer formal courses for graduate students and train medical students in medical genetics. Graduate training is available for both Masters of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The Department also participates in the M.D./Ph.D. program of the Faculty of Medicine, and Dentistry.
Our clinicians and genetic counselors provide comprehensive genetic evaluation and counseling services. The Department also operates comprehensive diagnostic molecular and cytogenetics laboratories.
The research in the Medical Genetics department is conducted in several major areas: including Imprinting, Developmental Genetics, Cancer Genetics, Ocular Genetics, Gene Regulation in Developmental Cancer, Muscular Dystrophy and Clinical Genetics.
This web site is designed to orient you to ongoing Medical Genetics degree programs, courses, faculty, staff, facilities, research and clinical activities. Our faculty members currently include scientists and clinicians, together with professors cross-appointed from the Departments of Biological Sciences, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Surgery, Pediatrics and MMI. The genetics clinics, research laboratories and diagnostic facilities are located on the 8th floor of the Medical Sciences Building, in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. We are also affiliated with the Stollery Children's Hospital, University of Alberta Hospital and other Departments and Faculties.
